If you have extended health benefits, you can take advantage of them as insurance plans often cover our therapists. After payment for your session, we can provide a receipt to you, which includes all the information to submit a claim to your insurance provider.

Understanding Insurance Coverage for Therapy

We understand how important it is for you to have access to mental health services. Although psychotherapy is regulated in Canada, it is unfortunately not covered by provincial health plans (e.g., OHIP in Ontario does not cover psychotherapy).

If you have insurance/extended health benefits from your employer or school, we find the majority of the plans often cover mental health services. If it’s not clearly stated, it’s best to speak with your insurance provider to determine your eligibility and approved rates of coverage. Make sure to confirm which mental health practitioners are covered.

Here are the titles we would be looking for therapy at Ruh Care:

  • Registered Social Worker (RSW)

  • Master of Social Work (MSW

  • Registered Psychotherapist (RP)

  • Occupational Therapist (OT)

  • Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC)

After payment for your session, we can provide a detailed receipt to you, which includes all the information required to submit a claim to your insurance provider.

We understand that the process of navigating insurance coverage can be complicated and stressful. If you need assistance with checking, you can also send us a copy of your insurance policy at [email protected], and we can guide you through it.

Insurance Coverage Assistance

We understand that therapy is an important personal investment, and we're mindful of the financial considerations it involves for our clients. If you have questions about your insurance, check out the scenarios below to start navigating your specific situation.

I have extended health/insurance coverage through my workplace

Amazing! If you’ve already booked your appointment with a Ruh Care therapist, you will want to ensure your insurance covers them. You can find which mental health practitioners are covered in your insurance policy. If you need help checking, you can email a copy of your insurance policy to our Client Care Team at [email protected] or call +1 416-639-5993. You can also directly contact your insurance/benefits provider or Human Resources department to get more information.

I have extended health/insurance coverage through my academic institution (e.g., college, university)

Fantastic! Many post-secondary students have insurance coverage through their schools. Make sure to double-check if mental health services and which mental health practitioners are covered by your insurance. If you need help checking, you can email a copy of your insurance policy to our Client Care Team at [email protected] or call +1 416-639-5993.

I am not sure if I have coverage, and I'd like help figuring this out

No worries! Let’s figure it out together. If you’re employed, a great first step is to contact your employer or human resources department to learn about your benefits coverage or get a copy of your insurance policy. If you’re a student, you can usually do a quick Google search to see what your university or college offers. The benefits may differ based on your student status (e.g., full-time vs part-time, undergraduate vs graduate). You can also schedule a call with Humeyra, our Co-Founder and Clinical Manager, or reach out to our Client Care Team at [email protected] or +1 416-639-5993 for additional help in figuring out what is covered.

I don't have extended health/insurance coverage and will be paying out of pocket directly

Investing in yourself is one of the best investments, and we congratulate you for taking the step to invest in your mental health. Together, we are committed to empowering you in navigating life's challenges by providing comprehensive mental health care, personalized to your unique journey of healing and growth.

I am enrolled in the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) and am wondering if therapy is covered

Although psychotherapy and social work are regulated health professions in Canada, they are unfortunately not covered by ODSP. If you need support in paying for therapy, you can apply for the financial assistance program.
